30 Songs in 30 Days Challenge – Day 16 – the TV theme one

My lovely and talented friend Sarah (see day 1 for link) started this challenge.

I am going to do this the way Sarah did – a song every day and with a few lines about why I like each artist and song, and why it is significant for me. I am as much about the music as the words by the way, so I have to like both if I include a song.

Please feel free to join in this challenge with your own lists!

‘Bad Things’ by Jace Everett

Soon after we met my good friend Dominique of 3C Style introduced me to this and the ‘True Blood’ TV show for which it is the theme song. (In return I introduced her to the show ‘Penny Dreadful’)

I loved the show right from the first episode I watched and am currently on season 4. With many TV shows I fast-forward through the opening titles but not this one. Not only is the song fantastic but the montage that accompanies it suits both the song and the show perfectly

  1. Dominique sent me the link to the theme before I saw the show and I think it is a great song and sound ๐Ÿ™‚
Penny Dreadful I felt was best in its first season but all three are worth watching.

  2. Same; especially film. I wrote my Masters thesis on feminist thrillers (as you do) and spent my 20s (and my income) going to the movies.
These days I try to see a few festival films, but otherwise am very out of touch with new cinema.

  3. Wish I could participate more in your song challenge Darren. As it is, I cannot really watch Youtube as my data capacity is too low. Necessity means that I pay for mobile data, as we have no fixed land-line (or address for that matter, since we are always on the move). I hope you are having fun with it though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Well this is something new we share Darren! I am a massive True Blood fan (I actually own every single series, a cook book and the series CD, all courtesy of my bestie). We would share every season when I travelled to her city to be kidfree and partner-free (in her case). Great memories, and I loved the character development and the transition in Sookie from pilot to end. Good choice!

  5. A cook book??? I guess this is Southern recipes that Lafayette might cook? He is one of my favourite characters in the show.
I just finished season four and will start season five soon. Good to hear you are a fan too๐Ÿ˜„

  6. Oh my, for a minute I thought Eve’s cook book was about cool vampire recipes, such as Bloody Mary delicacies, coffin cake or Black sausage. There is actually such a book: Love at First Bite – The Complete Vampire Lover’s Cookbook!
I would love to read Su’s thesis on feminist thrillers! What an original study. That is actually a research I would have like to write about.
Lafayette, Eric and Jason were my favourite characters in the show. And thanks for introducing me to Penny Dreadful. I enjoyed this series a lot. You already know how much I like Timothy Dalton.

  7. I had the same thoughts about the vampire cookbook๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜„.
Timothy Dalton is amazing. He has such presence that you can’t take your eyes off him when he is on screen. Eva Green too. Genius to cast them together.
I figured you would like Lafayette too, and Eric. Jason? Interesting character now I think about it as he has grown up a lot in the first four seasons. X

  8. I share your opinion about Eva Green. She is fabulous! Jason’s character was very well developed in the script and beautifully played by Ryan Kwanten. This is the type of character who despite his stupidity is endearing.

  9. I am a big Eric and Bill fan, plus Lafayette (RIP), Sookie, Pam and so many others. At first, for me it was all about Bill until Eric had a huge transformation but I won’t give anything away in case you’re not up to that. From then onward I’ve been an Eric fan!

  10. This is just one brilliant song, isn’t it? ๐Ÿ˜„ The moment I first heard it I was hooked by the series – and you’re right, that’s one of very few series that i don’t skip the intro of too! (Also happens with GoT ๐Ÿ˜Š). And I think you already know which character I like best. ๐Ÿ˜‰
