My lovely and talented friend Sarah (see day 1 for link) started this challenge.
I am going to do this the way Sarah did – a song every day and with a few lines about why I like each artist and song, and why it is significant for me. I am as much about the music as the words by the way, so I have to like both if I include a song.
Please feel free to join in this challenge with your own lists!
‘Diamonds Are Forever’ by Shirley Bassey
Written by John Barry and Don Black, this was the second of three Bond movie themes recorded by Shirley Bassey.
There HAD to be a Bond theme in this list! The Bond franchise has had some exceptional theme songs over the years but this is my favourite.
The Bond movies were always shown on TV at Christmas when I was a boy and I always looked forward to them. My introduction to books for grown-ups was, coincidentally, a scuffed copy of Dr No I found at school when I was ten. I went on to read all of Fleming’s original novels though by this time the movie franchise had long since given up being faithful to them.
Shirley Bassey’s first Bond theme was Goldfinger in 1964. Though regarded as a classic I much prefer the song featured here. Partly because Shirley Bassey seemed to be permanently on TV in the UK in the 70s and always sang Goldfinger so I was a bit jaded with it.
